Graphics Magazine
Info
Graphics was Vietnam’s first magazine dedicated entirely to graphic design, created at a time when the country’s growing design community had few places to see its own work, ideas and conversations reflected in print. As Editor-in-Chief, I led a five-person team across editorial direction, content development, design and production—from deciding what stories were worth telling to overseeing the final print. Across five issues, Graphics gave us a space to explore, share and celebrate the design work and conversations happening around us.

With no established local blueprint to follow, we had to decide what a graphic design magazine in Vietnam could be. The answer started with the fundamentals. Five issues were built around five basic elements of design — Dot, Line, Shape, Form and Space — each becoming a lens for exploring the people, ideas and work shaping the industry. Interviews, features and visual stories came together around each theme, giving every issue its own character while building a larger story from one publication to the next. Making it happen meant moving constantly between research, editorial judgment, creative direction, team leadership and print production — turning an idea on paper into the paper itself.

More than 3,000 copies of Graphics were sold, with several issues going back to print. Looking back, it was also one of my first experiences of what it meant to shape a creative vision through a team while still figuring things out ourselves along the way.
